Isn’t it time for Downton Abbey to get a musical episode similar to what executive producer Shonda Rhimes did for Grey’s Anatomy or what director Joss Whedon did before her on Buffy the Vampire Slayer? Wonder no further. This is what the premiere episode of Downton Abbey season 4 looks like as a musical.

You can watch a 10 minute “preview” right here.

Granted this “musical episode” is a “making of spoof” co-written and directed by stage satirist John Walton West and one of its performers is comedian Colin Andrew Mochrie from Whose Line Is It Anyway? so you should take it with a grain of salt and of course a laugh.

Of the 10 minute clip, Mochrie playing Julian Fellowes says he wanted to create something for American audiences since they have to watch the series after it premieres in the U.K. first.

Some of the plot points “leaked”:

  • Carson and Mrs. Hughes wrangle over a new technology: the tea bag.
  • Branson and Mary sing a duet while holding their babies.
  • Edith is serenaded by her former suitors who are immediately distracted by a scene stealing Rose.
  • And the first black character joins the cast in a rousing group number.
