This Thursday, June 21, 2012 marks United Way’s inspirational Day of Action. This is a national strategic effort on the longest day of the year to advance the common good. More than 74,000 individuals participated nationwide last year. To celebrate United Way's 125th anniversary, they have created a list of 125 volunteer opportunities. All that’s left to do is gather a group of friends and pick a few to do.

At GPB, we’re getting involved and supporting the community by making sandwiches during our lunch break on Thursday. We’ve signed up to bring in bread, peanut butter, and jelly and have set a goal to make as many sandwiches as possible to support a local food program for the homeless that serves over 200 people twice a day. You can follow us along while we post to Facebook and Twitter on Thursday with our progress.

And, most importantly, we hope that you are also inspired to be an active, positive support to your local community. United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta has a goal of 5,000 local participants. Regardless the size of our community, we have an opportunity to play a beneficial role as active participants for a happier, healthier community. Let United Way know if you plan to participate and find local engagement opportunities in your area at this website.
