Southwire Named Large Manufacturer of the Year

Southwire Company is one of Georgia’s greatest success stories.

Started 63 years ago in a small West Georgia town the company now has 15 manufacturing plants across the United States with five in Georgia. The company currently employs over 5500 people with almost 3000 employees in Georgia.

The award for Manufacturer of the Year is given by the Technical College System of Georgia and the Georgia Department of Economic Development.

According to the website times-georgian.com an awards ceremony was recently held at the Georgia International Convention Center where Southwire Board Vice-Chairman Lee Richards accepted the award. “Our dad started the business in his hometown of Carrollton with a small building, 15 employees, two trucks and two worn out wire making machines,” Richards told the crowd. “Many people in the industry thought it was the wrong location. They said all the wire and cable was made in the northeast. He proved them wrong.”
