Professional Lacrosse is Growing in Popularity and May Soon Be Coming to Atlanta

Major League Lacrosse (MLL) may soon be headed to Georgia with a new franchise.

A report in LAXMagazine.com says league officials are “strongly” considering metro Atlanta for an expansion team.

Lacrosse participation has grown rapidly in Georgia. Just a decade ago almost no high school in Georgia fielded a lacrosse team. Today, more than 100 high school teams participate in competitive lacrosse.

According to the report MLL Commissioner David Gross sees Atlanta as an expansion market. Rumors have surfaced that the current Rochester team may move to Atlanta but the commissioner dispelled that suggestion.

"Right now, we're looking at when we go to Atlanta that Atlanta be an expansion team," Gross said.

MLL started in 1999 and now feature eight teams across the U.S. and Canada. The closest team to Atlanta is the Charlotte Hounds. Anyone interested in more information about the MLL should click HERE
