Georgia Olive Farms is Leading an American Emergence in Olive Oil Production

Agriculture remains the number one economic sector of Georgia's economy. Georgia is also one of the U.S. top 15 states for agriculture output.

Most Georgians know about the peanuts, pecans, peaches, chickens, and Vidalia onions grown in our state. But did you know that Blueberries are the top money producing fruit crop in Georgia? And south Georgia is now becoming the home to a new crop from the old world: olives.

This week on Georgia Works radio we talk to:

  • Jason Shaw who helped start Georgia's first active Olive Farm in more than a century
  • Restaurant consultant Tommy Young who believes "Georgia Grown" on a restaurant menu means more money is the cash register
