the GPB.org/Sports game of the week is
st pius at westminster and this one should be a dandy.

st pius is ranked 3rd in class AAA while westminster
is ranked 3rd in class AA

westminster is coming off an 8-4 season and coach gerry romberg
has 11 starters returning, 6 on offense and 5 on defense.

leading the way for the wildcats are offensive and defensive
lineman sam jowers who is being looked at by some big time
programs like georgia, georgia tech vandy. princeton is also
taking a look at the 6-2 245 pounder.

the fullback is coleman poje and at qb will be danny catan who i'm told
sees the field and reads the field as good as anyone.

st pius of course is coached by paul standard who is setting the standard
for the golden lions. this is his 11th season and he has a record of 84 wins
and 33 losses.

last year the golden lions went 9-3, one of those losses was to westminster
20-12, so the lions will be looking for a little payback this year.

i am interested in seeing st pius cornerback geno smith, who just
verbally committed to alabama and is rated as one of the top 3 defensive
backs in the entire country....should be a great one to kick off our
webcasts with......its gpb.org/sports at 7:30 with bob houghton and
fletcher proctor making the call.

i also have a few thoughts about the corky kell classic. what a great day of
high school football. game one, grayson and kell grayson winning late in the
game with a touchdown, 7-0

game two, the upset of the year so far, as lassiter knocks off
the top ranked team in the state and the defending 5 AAAAA champ
brookwood 14-6

all kinds of fireworks in the third game as mceachern scored 2 touchdowns in the
last 10 seconds to break open a close game 26-14 over north gwinnett.
i talked with north gwinnett coach bob sphire as he was heading to his
team bus and i said his team played well, tough loss, that kind of thing.
you could look in his eyes and see the pain of the loss still
dominating his feelings and he looked at me and said, that his team
will take alot away from this game, and will learn from it, and get better.
i like this guy.

in game 4, walton used a couple of electrfying big plays to open up a close
game and beat peachtree ridge. alot of talented players on both sides of the football
in this game.....

thats about it for me, I am preparing for the roswell-collins hill game on GPB
this friday night at 8pm.............we will try and broadcast like a champion
and bring you the very best in high school sports on GPB the world wide leader
in high school sports, bar none.
