Okay, how many of you saw that one coming…?

By “that one” I mean the upset of Norcross… the shut-out of Norcross… by Milton, at Milton last week on “Football Fridays." I think the number of raised hands would be very small outside of the Eagles Nest.

But you have to take your hats off to Head Coach Howie DeCristofaro and his game plan. Run the ball against a team that was having problems stopping it and get key turnovers when you needed them.

Understand this, though:

Norcross is very young right now. Yes, they have an all-new offensive line. Yes, they have two new quarterbacks. But when we get deep into the season, they will not be the same team they are now. If you’re going to beat them, beat them now.

The next two years, with all the young kids getting reps, Norcross will be a difficult team to get a hold of. Or, as they say here, get a “holt” of… and they’ll be back to the levels that Coach Maloof expects them to be.

Special football.

Now, let’s take a look around the state.

A lot of defending champs are still in their non-region mode and are traveling to pull off their games before they get into region schedules. First stop is Augusta where Matt and Nathan look at what’s going on when Griffin travels to Waynesboro to take on Burke County.

On the coast, Frank and Stefanie have another round of “The Frenzy” starting off with one of the best nicknames in the state: the Atom Smashers of Johnson taking on playoff surprise from last year: Richmond Hill.

The marquee game in Central Georgia gave us the opportunity to see how Washington County is handling the top ranking they have. The Golden Hawks took on Mary Persons and the result was a bit of a surprise.

All I have to say to MJ2 is…“LEHGO!”

Elsewhere, who had Carrollton and ELCA not having won a game at this point in the season…? Carrollton is 0-3 for the first time since 1977 and the Chargers are 0-3 for the first time since 2001.

Finishing up with something cool this week:

Dougherty broke a 12-game losing streak this past weekend with a win over Randolph-Clay, 42-36. Dougherty actually was down 20-6 at the half and came back for the win.

Here’s Jake with the highlights.

Okay, blatant promo time.

The new round of “Football Fridays in Georgia” is coming to you from Hallford Stadium this week for a match-up between two old region rivals: MLK and Tucker.

Tucker got their first win of the year beating Stone Mountain last week while MLK is looking to be spoiler. The “All-Access Pass” starts at 7 with kickoff a little after 7:30. So join Claire, Matt, Grace, Sam Crenshaw and myself for another fun night of high school football. Be sure to follow us all season long on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

Oh, Mark…?

He’s at a wedding this weekend in Indianapolis. So, if you’re watching from up there, say “Hi” to him when you see him.

Play it safe, everyone. See you at the stadium!
