Shockers, upsets and several raised eyebrows were the rule after last week’s prep football games across the state. Number two ranked Norcross from Class AAAAAA took it on the chin at surprising Milton, 26-0. Mary Persons, the number eight team from the top ten in Class AAAA, traveled to Sandersville. The House of Pain home field advantage was too much to overcome as the number one rated team in Class AAA, Washington County, walked away with a 31-0 win. In other games across the state, which surprised many prep observers, Fitzgerald beat neighborhood rival Irwin County handily 40-12, Berrien beat Class AAA Cook of Adel 21-14 and Marist topped Class AA power Lovett, 27-7.

As we head into yet another week of prep action there is no shortage of quality on-the-field football action. The number one rated Colquitt County Packers of Moultrie are on the road this week at long time Alabama prep power, Enterprise. The Pack is 3-0 on the season and deserving of their top spot in this week’s polls. The respect for Rush Propst's team is not just here in Georgia, as the Packers have reached the lofty number eight ranking nationwide. There are other top Class AAAAAA matchups this weekend as well: Tucker is at M.L. King, Grayson is at Archer and Hillgrove is at Lovejoy.

Class AAAAA has the state’s best matchup this week as number six ranked Coffee plays at number two ranked Ware County in Waycross at historic Memorial Stadium. A standing room only crowd of over ten-thousand is expected for this Region 3-AAAAA match that will shed plenty of light on which team will get the inside track to the region championship. Coffee won this matchup a year ago, 38-13, and the Gators from Ware County have been looking forward to a rematch for quite a while. GHSA reclassification placed the two teams in the same region for the next two years, so instead of just being a border war, this week’s game takes on a higher level of importance.

In Class AAAA, Crisp County is at Worth County, Sandy Creek is at Class AAAAAA Newnan, and Monroe of Albany takes on Bainbridge. Class AAA’s top games find Hart County at Class AAAA Thomson, top-ranked Washington County at Class AAAA Veterans, Tattnall County at Appling County in a key Region 1-AAA matchup while Elbert County out of Region 8-AAA hosts Westminster from Region 4-AAA at the Granite Bowl in Elberton, in a non-region test of AAA powers.

Top Class AA matchups include: Single A power Charlton County at Class AA Bacon County, Lamar County at AAAA Mary Persons and Miller County at Pelham. In Class A, it’s defending public school champions, Marion County at Dooly County and George Walton Academy at Prince Avenue Christian.

There's clearly a lot ahead on football fields across the state tonight so stay tuned!
