What was it that I said about all the upsets going on in the rankings…? That they happen, they’ll still happen and to not be surprised about them happening because we’re not done…?

Something like that… and to not be surprised when things like that DO happen. Case in point, what happened in the Jones County-Northside game. Jones County is 4-0 for the first time since 1999. The Greyhounds put up 561 yards in total offense and averaged 11.5 yards per play. Jones County had been 0-5 against Northside, which entered the game ranked No. 1. It was also the most points allowed by Northside since losing to Tift County 46-27 in 1993.

Digging the fresh unis of Jones County, by the way.

Then, there was another top-ranked team that had the closest of close calls. Aquinas, led by Ruben Garnett and others, were taken to the wall by Stratford Academy in one of their signature games since they came into the GHSA from the GISA.

Here’s Matt and Nathan on another Football Friday Night. They also have highlights of Thomson-Washington Wilkes, WaCo-Burke, and Elbert County-Laney.

ECI has been making noise of late in Single-A public and had to take care of Claxton last week as the lead story out of Savannah.

A couple of other surprises:

Not necessarily that Hawkinsville beat Brookstone, but the margin may have been a shocker at 33-7. The same with Irwin beating Clinch 47-7. That was the most points the Panthers gave up in a single-a loss since 1977. How about Houston County putting 62 on Warner Robins or Bricen Terry rushing for 215 yards and a touchdown on 32 carries in the “Football Fridays in Georgia” game between Creekside and Stephenson.

This week should be another interesting matchup in Cobb County as Hillgrove heads to Marietta for a game at historic Northcutt Stadium. It’s the last season before the scheduled renovation of a facility that dates back to the WPA. The “All-Access Pass” kicks off with Mark and Claire at 7 with kick-off a little after 7:30. So join Mark, Claire, Grace, Matt, Larry, and moi for all the details. Be a part of the process as always and we look forward to telling the stories from all around the state for another football Friday.
