My goddaughter Machaela Goodbee shows off her honor roll certificate. Way to go Machaela!

It’s awards season in schools now. I got an invite to the awards reception at Luther Judson Price Middle School in Atlanta, Ga and I couldn’t be more proud. You see my goddaughter Machaela is a student there. She made the honor roll.

According to principal Sterling Christy, students who obtain a 3.0 or more qualify for the honor roll. Higher GPAs were given honor roll plus and principal’s list recognition. Students received certificates, badges, medals, and trophies. And after that we enjoyed a light meal, cake and punch.

Too often we spend too much time pointing out the failings of students and what they need to do better. It’s nice that at the end of the year we take time to celebrate their achievements, improvements, and abilities.

So congratulations to my goddaughter Machaela, her fellow students at Luther Judson Price Middle school and all students who did well, worked hard, are moving on to the next grade or graduating to a new future. We’re very proud of you!
