Longtime broadcaster and Georgia-native Ernie Harwell who spent most of his career calling games for the Detroit Tigers has been diagnosed with incurable cancer.

According to several media outlets, the 91-year old Harwell remains upbeat after an inoperable cancer was found obstructing his bile duct.

Harwell got his start back in the 1940’s as a sportswriter for the Atlanta Journal & Constitution and later as sports commentator on WSB radio.

Harwell told the Detroit Free Press that he didn’t know how long his illness would last, but he’s ready for "whatever’s in store, for a new adventure.”
