Police in Middle Georgia have busted two suspected dog fighting operations. Police raided two locations in Wilkinson County and found 70 dogs. They discovered the remains of 6 to 7 additional dogs in the woods. The surviving animals were taken away by the Atlanta Humane Society. Officials there say they showed signs of abuse.
Police received tips from Norred, an Atlanta security company which operates a tip line for dog fighting rings. Norred investigator, Chuck Simmons says they received an anonymous tip.
"We investigated these tips and found evidence of dog fighting and animal neglect and cruelty, and we took those tips to the Gordon Police Department and the Wilkinson County Sheriff's Office."
So far police have made two arrests and plan to file charges of animal cruelty. The Atlanta Humane Society is providing medical care for the dogs.
