The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating 2 prisons in Tattnall and Macon Counties for possible abuse by guards. GBI Spokesman John Bankhead says the head of the Department of Corrections made the request to the GBI Chief.

“Commissioner Brian Owens personally called Director Keenan yesterday morning to request that GBI investigate allegations of abuse.

Last month The Georgia Department of Corrections locked down four prisons after authorities discovered that inmates
were launching a protest. The inmates were asking for better work and living conditions.

Prisoner Advocates held a rally today (Thursday) to urge state officials to improve conditions for inmates.
