Last week, Chamblee came away with a few lopsided victories over Lithonia and Redan. Against Lithonia, Kelly Strychalski went for 4-for-4 a home run and two triples; in one inning she accomplished the feat of driving in seven batters. She also closed out the game and started the next against Redan. “(Her inning) was pretty amazing,” stated Chamblee head softball coach Adrienne Keathley. “I do not know if it is a record or not…(because of her play,) I would say for last week Kelly Strychalski was probably the MVP.” This week Chamblee continues region play against Lakeside-DeKalb and Mays. “(In region play,) do not make errors and play good softball,” remarked Keathley. “Just go out there and do what we practiced.” … Greater Atlanta Christian ended up winning the Shaw Invitational this past weekend in Columbus despite dropping their first game to Harlem 9-6. After the loss, the Spartans rolled on to win four straight games over the weekend to claim the title. Of their four wins, a 4-3 victory over Harlem sparked GAC’s momentum. During the tournament, Sierra Lawrence finished 7-for-15 with three homers, five RBIs and nine runs scored while Natalie deLatour went 10-for-16 with two RBIs and four runs scored; she also earned the victory in two of the wins. … Brookwood looks to stay hot this week against Gwinnett foe Parkview; the Broncos have won 12 straight games behind the solid pitching of Mercer commit Brandi Jones and Rachel Hill; half of the wins have been shutouts. “We swung the bat pretty well with some timely hits and pitching wise we have been outstanding,” said head coach Bill Batchelor. Against South Gwinnett last Thursday, both Jones and Hill combined for a no-hitter and struck out 15 to keep the Broncos undefeated in region play. … The speculation has ended for Wesleyan’s CaraMia Tsirigos’ college choice. The junior slugger announced over the weekend that she will play her collegiate ball at Indiana University. Tsirigos is an all-state, all-region and all-county player for the Wolves. … Buford continued to play well this weekend in its own tournament. In the championship game, the Wolves defeated Union County 4-1 in a rematch of last season’s Class AA championship game. They will continue play on Thursday against county opponent Grayson. … Pope continued their hot start by defeating North Paulding on a squeeze play. Ellie Viland drove in the first of two in the eighth on a squeeze play; the second occurred on an overthrow to the pitcher. The Greyhounds will take on Hiram and East Paulding this week to try and remain the lone team atop region 5B-AAAA. … Sticking with Cobb, Lassiter defeated Archer on Monday 6-0 behind Mackenzie Kayler’s second two-hit shutout in the past three games. Besides her dominance in the circle against the Tigers, she went 3-for-4 with a three-run homer, a pair of doubles and five RBIs. Lassiter will finish up region play this Thursday at home against rival Walton before they face off in the region tournament at the end of the month.
