Authorities say construction on what will be Georgia's newest state park at Lake Lanier has been delayed.

Georgia Department of Natural Resources officials tell The Times of Gainesville that construction on Don Carter State Park may not begin until 2012.

Construction was originally set to begin in November and end in spring 2013.

Kim Hatcher, a DNR spokeswoman, said the design of the project took longer than expected.

The park, on the northern part of Lake Lanier, will be about 1,040 acres.
