A Sons of Confederate Veterans group plans to erect a monument on the Griswoldville battlefield site in Jones County.

The monument will include the names of the Confederate units that fought at Griswoldville as well as memorial emblems of the Confederate States of America and the old Georgia seal.

The project is estimated to cost about $30,000. The battle took place on Nov. 22, 1864 during Gen. William Tecumseh Sherman's march to the sea.

The Macon Telegraph reports construction of the Georgia granite obelisk monument is a project of the Gen. Edward Dorr Tracy camp of the Sons of Confederate Veterans. The monument will be 14 feet tall.
