At least two Georgia school systems delayed the start of classes Tuesday as a wintry mix of precipitation began spreading into Georgia from Alabama.

The Chattanooga Times Free Press reports that the Catoosa County and Walker County school systems in northwest Georgia delayed Tuesday's start by two hours.

National Weather Service forecasters said rain and snow showers would fall Tuesday over much of north Georgia, but little or no snow accumulation was expected.

In Atlanta, city officials said they were monitoring the situation and crews were prepared for inclement weather that may cause slick or hazardous conditions. If there is freezing precipitation, officials say city of Atlanta crews would pre-treat priority bridges and stage equipment for any necessary response.
