Bibb County’s legislative delegation is moving closer to an agreement on consolidating Macon and Bibb County. They plan to introduce a bill when the legislature convenes in January.

Lawmakers are drafting legislation that would put consolidation on the ballot in 2012. Supporters say it will ultimately save money by combining services for Macon and Bibb County.

State Representative Nikki Randall leads Bibb County’s delegation. She says as they reach agreements on key issues, attorneys make sure they pass constitutional muster.

“There are several areas that we have not quite come to agreements on and it’s not because there’s infighting, because the spirit of cooperation amongst the delegation is almost unbelievable.”

Past efforts to consolidate have failed, but changes in leadership could increase its chances this time around.
