The Georgia Military College band played Thursday at the State Capitol to celebrate Georgia heritage.

Governor Nathan Deal was there to declare Sunday February the 12th as “Georgia Day.”

Deal reflected on how far the state has come since General Ogelthorpe first landed at Yamacraw Bluff nearly three centuries ago.

“We know that as a result of what’s happened since that first landing that Georgia has come to be one of the foremost states of our union, with great schools, safe communities and quality job opportunities for our citizens.”

The state will turn 289 years old this month.
