After just four months in office the chairman of the Bibb County Democratic Party is stepping down. The 24-year old says he’s lost the support of many local party leaders.

Native Maconite Danny Glover says his efforts to draw in younger voters of all races, including whites, angered many old-guard party leaders.

Members of the party’s executive committee including former Macon Mayor Jack Ellis, and former State Representative David Lucas also blasted Glover at a recent forum when he publicly supported efforts to consolidate Macon and Bibb County.

“After I spoke out on consolidation at the MLK forum, I was cursed out. I was called every “F” word in the book. I was called foolish, dumb, for having an opinion.”

Glover says he’s stepping down for the good of the party. The vote on consolidation takes place at the end of July.
