The Justice Department has approved new district voting maps for Bibb County's school district. But the decision now raises questions about whether the new or old voting plans should be used for primary elections this summer.

Rep. Allen Peake, R-Macon, said he supports using the new maps. But a Bibb County elections official said she doesn't know how the federal action might affect the races.

Local legislators initially approved the maps, and Gov. Nathan Deal signed the plan earlier this spring, sending them to the federal government. The maps were created after the 2010 Census to evenly distribute population among school board districts.
