Lynyrd Skynyrd's guitarist Gary Rossington will be honored at the 34th annual Georgia Music Hall of Fame Awards in mid-October.

Rossington joins a list of five other inductees for the awards, which will take place Oct. 14 at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre. Rossington, who honored in the songwriter category, has written more than 120 songs including classics such as "Sweet Home Alabama," ''Simple Man" and "What's Your Name."

Other inductees include Sugarland, 38 Special, Alex Hodges, Riley Biederer and a posthumous recognition for blues guitarist Jonny Jenkins.

Recently retired WSB-TV anchor Monica Pearson will be the mistress of ceremonies of the event. Former "American Idol" contestant Diana DeGarmo and her fiancée Ace Young will also perform.

The concert and show will be televised live on GPB.
