The fight over what to call the merger of two Augusta colleges isn't subsiding a month after state officials chose the name Georgia Regents University.

A group of local businessmen have formed a group called "Save the A." Spokesman John Hall says its mission is to lobby Gov. Nathan Deal and University System officials to put the word "Augusta" back into the school's name.

The Board of Regents is merging Augusta State University and Georgia Health Sciences University. It voted last month to call the merged school Georgia Regents University. The decision drew howls of protest locally, where many had pushed for the University of Augusta or some variation that included the city's name.
