Elizabeth Smart, who was abducted in Salt Lake City 10 years ago, told a crowd at Kennesaw State University the ordeal taught her the importance of discussing child abuse and sexual abuse.

She said no one wants to consider the possibility of someone hurting, molesting or abducting their child, although there are enough child predators in America for one to live in every square mile of the county.

Smart, now 25 years old, was the keynote speaker at the World Day for the Prevention of Child Abuse conference Monday.

The Marietta Daily Journal reports the conference culminated 19 days of children's advocacy events.

Cynthia Howell, executive director of the Children's Advocacy Centers of Georgia, told the newspaper Smart's speech helped draw a crowd of about 380 people.
