Following a swearing-in Monday by State Court Judge Bill Adams, Steve Smith is officially out of retirement and in as the Interim Superintendent of the Bibb County Schools.

In 2012 he retired as Superintendent of the Lowndes County Schools.

Smith says first on the agenda is healing the Bibb school system. "I do feel like this is a calling. I appreciate the board’s confidence in me. I will do my very best to live up to the expectations that the community and the board have set forth for me, and I’m excited." The job could last a year, but Smith say he will not be a lame duck. Right now he’s dealing with budget and staffing cuts.

In February the Bibb B.O.E. parted ways with polarizing Superintendent Romain Dallemand.
