A newspaper publisher with more than 50 years of industry experience is resigning from his post.

Rome News-Tribune Publisher Otis Raybon is stepping down from his position Friday. The newspaper reports Raybon's interest in the media industry was piqued when he began delivering his hometown paper, the Griffin Daily News.

Raybon worked at the Griffin paper during high school and while he was enrolled at Georgia State University. Raybon says it was that job that showed him the impact newspapers could have on the communities they serve.

Aside from multiple stints at the Griffin Daily News, Raybon has worked for the Valdosta Daily Times and the Americus Times Recorder. He began working as the Rome News-Tribune's publisher in 2008.

Raybon says he's unsure of what he'll do next.
