The Bibb County Board of Education is looking forward after a busy election night.

Daryl Morton and Wanda West easily defeated their opponents in their races.

West, who will retain her Post 8 seat, has been a school board member for more than three years and before retirement served in several education capacities in Bibb County and superintendent of the Twiggs County School system.

West says she’s looking forward to another four years of service. “For me it gives me another four years to continue working to help Bibb County dig out of a hole.” West says the disconnect between the BOE and the former superintendent was rooted in process, procedure and misunderstanding. West also says the BOE needs time to review policies and develop a strategic plan.

As voters headed to the polls on Tuesday there were two things many people thought about; quality education and schools spending. A recent audit of the Bibb Schools found that former superintendent Romain Dallemand spent $26 million without approval. Of that spending West says “A board of education is the governance body. It is the bottom line. But we have experienced internal control sending information to external control before it comes to the board table. You have to have all of the facts up front.”

The search for a new schools superintendent has been reopened. West says they are taking their time to find a leader that will be collaborative with parents, teachers, students, the Board of Education and the community.
