The Georgia Ports Authority has unveiled a new Mobile Command Center for use in hurricanes or other natural disasters. Ports officials said in a release Thursday that Georgia Ports Authority's entire operation can be run from the mobile center.
University of Georgia officials have created a facility to house pets in hurricanes and other emergencies. Many people refuse to evacuate their homes during emergencies because they don't want to leave their pets, putting themselves at risk.
Georgia might not be deeply affected by a stoppage of FEMA disaster funds -- at least in the short term. The U.S. Senate on Monday was set to vote on a bill that would in part restore money to FEMA's disaster relief fund. Georgia emergency officials say much of the already-approved federal assistance money would not be affected.
