Elections observers will no longer be able to talk to Macon-Bibb County voters in line at the polls under new restrictions passed Thursday evening by the board of elections.
The board’s action does not apply to official poll watchers, which are governed by Georgia law, but refers to groups or individuals who claim they have the right to observe and assist voters.
When Historic Macon Foundation’s Ethiel Garlington moved to town in 2014, a late 19th Century drugstore caught his eye in Beall’s Hill.
“This is the first building I’ve seen and fell in love with,” Garlington told the Land Bank Authority this summer.
The two-story, brick business with its angled entrance also was love at first site for chef Robert Fisher who was searching for a home for his catering business and new restaurant.
COVID-19 lockdowns decimated the travel industry and there is little hope it will bounce back any time soon. Visit Macon, the local convention and visitors bureau, is seeing some signs of recovery but it is clear it will take time to reach the level of business enjoyed before the pandemic.
