The cold rain didn’t keep people away from GPB’s annual Be My Neighbor Day community event last weekend. More than 600 people braved the weather for a chance to meet Daniel Tiger at The Home Depot Backyard in Atlanta. Kids and grown-ups alike enjoyed visiting a pop-up library from Georgia Public Library Service, creating a compassion garden with Compassionate Atlanta, planning balanced meals with Atlanta Community Food Bank, and meeting community helpers from Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, MARTA and the Atlanta Fire & Rescue Department. Attendees also enjoyed visiting the PNC Mobile Learning Adventure, a traveling exhibit that allows parents and children to engage in unique, interactive activities and discover everyday activities as learning opportunities.

GPB was also pleased to introduce the community to our newest friend Pow, one of the Gashlings from GASHA GO! World. Pow is one of many Gashlings who work together and use their brains and problem-solving skills to keep things running smoothly. Be My Neighbor Day is a free community event themed around the popular PBS KIDS show Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood, inspired by the iconic Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood. The event is made possible with support from Fred Rogers Productions and PNC Grow Up Great and features activities designed to help children learn about their community and the importance of being a kind and caring neighbor. Visit www.gpb.org/neighbor to see more pictures from the event and to download resources for caregivers in both Spanish and English.
