Georgia Public Broadcasting (GPB), in collaboration with The Georgia Geocachers Association, is thrilled to announce the launch of our Adventure Labs, focused on the charming town of Plains, Georgia.

If you are unfamiliar with geocaching, think of it as a digital treasure hunt, powered by the Adventure Lab app. Download the app here! This app guides players through finding clues, solving puzzles, and completing Adventures one Location at a time. Currently hosting 50,000 public Adventures worldwide, it is fantastic way to blend outdoor exploration with learning and fun. And for existing Geocaching members, these adventures count as caches towards your account’s statistics and total finds.

One Adventure Lab takes you on a journey to Plains, Georgia—hometown of the 39th President of the United States, Jimmy Carter. Through geocaching, you will uncover the story of the peanut farmer who ascended to the presidency and won the Nobel Peace Prize. Plains may be small, but its impact on American history is colossal, and through this Adventure Lab, you will get an intimate glimpse into Carter’s world, from his family farm to his presidential campaign headquarters at the Plains Train Depot.

This geocaching journey is an adventure steeped in history, a chance to engage with Georgia’s iconic past while enjoying the thrill of the hunt. By celebrating these iconic locations through geocaching, GPB and The Georgia Geocachers Association hope to inspire a deeper appreciation for the rich tapestry that makes up Georgia’s past and its influence on American history.
