Inventure Prize offers fun invention education and STEM content!

August is National Inventors Month! How did we miss telling you about that until now? Well, school starting back means we’re all busy, especially here as we support public, private, and home school educators ramping up to get students’ years started off with a burst of enthusiasm.

In an effort to work in more multimedia options for your classroom and in keeping with the overall educational focus of career readiness, emphasizing STEM careers, National Inventors Month provides an excellent opportunity to educate while structuring cross-platform learning.

You can easily find information on Georgia inventors, making a local connection and checking off boxes for Georgia Studies content at the same time, by including images and podcasts from Georgia Stories. That site is password protected, so email us at education@gpb.org and we’ll email it back to you. Also, your school’s media specialist probably knows what it is, too.

There are also three years of archived Inventure Prize competitions on GPB.org. Hosted at Georgia Tech, it is the annual competition for teams of Tech’s students to create, invent, test, and prove that their inventions are the next best development for society. Audience members and judges vote and attribute three top prizes to the contestants, including help patenting, producing, and marketing winning inventions!

You can also share the GPB Education team’s inventors video from February, some of whom are also Georgia natives.

Encourage student conversation, written or verbal, and creativity while opening the doors for great discussions about career readiness, which you can bring together with tales from Fast Forward, GPB’s new STEM career series about actual jobs for actual people in our state. The videos will post in the next few months, but for now you can keep up with their state-wide travels and ask questions via their blog.
