Student Inventors Compete in The Inventure Prize 2013
Primary Content
This may be education at its finest. Students combine their cumulative knowledge, creativity, and passion for discovery to solve real, current problems. Created and organized by faculty of Georgia Tech, the objective of The InVenture Prize is to create incentives, resources, and a structure for undergraduate student innovation and entrepreneurship in a fun, high-profile event.
What begins with dozens of students and student groups is whittled down to 6 inventions and their creators. Then, GPB broadcasts the competition live. You can watch remotely on your internet-ready device and participate in a live chat with other viewers.
All entries are judged live after students present their inventions to a panel of judges who ask questions about the device, usability, market need/ want for the product, and financial feasibility. Judges then determine the winners.
The final round prizes includes:
- A cash prize of $20,000 for first place or $10,000 for second place.
A free US patent filing by Georgia Tech's Office of Technology Licensing (each valued at approximately $20,000) for both the first and second place winners.
The Winner(s) of the InVenture Prize will automatically be accepted to the Summer '13 Class of Flashpoint, a Georgia Tech startup accelerator program.
The People’s Choice Award is also determined live at the show, but is not chosen by the judges. Instead, audience members can text in their votes or their favorite invention. The winner of that prize receives $5,000.
