Happy Birthday, President Carter!

Georgia’s one and only president was born on October 1, 1924. Jimmy Carter was born in Plains, Georgia, a rural farming community in the southwestern region of the state. In 1970, Carter jumped straight into politics as governor and then ambitiously sought and won the presidency in 1976.
Carter Center
Since his role as president, Carter has been highly active in foreign policies and relations through his work with the Carter Center. Through Peace programs and Health programs, the Carter Center focuses on specific areas to address fair and equal treatment of citizens across the globe for healthier people, families, and ultimately, a better world. Their international work includes ensuring clean water and vaccinations. In the United States, the Carter Center has recently been working to educate citizens about the new healthcare reform laws, including direct work by Carter and his wife Rosalyn.
Nobel Prize
His work for humanitarian aid earned Carter the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002, making him the second Georgian to receive the award.
