Having children participate in summer programs is an excellent way for them to remain productive during the time they are not in school. They can also build life-long skills, easily adapt to new environments, and develop their social skills. Here is a list of camps you may want to consider enrolling your kids over the next couple of months:

High Museum of Art

Atlanta, Georgia

The High Museum of Art is hosting a series of art camps beginning in June. Each session lasts a week, and students will participate in activities geared toward their age. Six to eight-year-olds can examine the artistry of crafting, while 9 to 11-year-olds can choose whether they want to learn about different painting techniques or design concepts.

Coastal Heritage Society

Savannah, Georgia

The Coastal Heritage Society is conducting programs at the Savannah Children’s Museum and the Georgia State Railroad Museum. Children ages 4 to 10 can become scientists, engineers, or archaeologists. Sessions begin early June. Hurry and register.  

Atlanta History Center

Atlanta, Georgia

Bring lessons to life at the Atlanta History Center with its History and Writing Summer Camps. Writing workshops will be held at the Margaret Mitchell House, while historians will tackle historical content at the Atlanta History Center. Camp facilitators will explore topics such as disasters, mysteries in the city, and poetry. Classes are closing quickly, so make sure you register as soon as possible. 

Camp Blue Ridge

Mountain City, Georgia

If you are looking for something more traditional, Camp Blue Ridge may be an option. Located in North Georgia’s beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains, it offers an overnight experience full of classic activities like swimming, fishing, whitewater rafting, and archery.

Summer Camps at Georgia Tech 

Atlanta, Georgia 

Georgia Tech’s campus will be bustling with a host of engaging opportunities. Many cover subjects such as engineering, computing, and entrepreneurship. One camp to highlight is Excel Summer Camp. Excel specifically targets high school juniors and seniors with mild intellectual and developmental disabilities. It exposes them to the Georgia Tech campus and allows them to spend a week experiencing college life. 

 

Girls Scouts of Greater Atlanta

Luthersville, Armuchee, Acworth, and Mableton, Georgia

With locations throughout the state, the Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta has overnight and day options for children in grades as low as kindergarten. Depending on the location, horseback riding and sailing are activities in which girls can participate. Sessions and availability vary by location, so be sure to research which one best fits your needs.  

University of West Georgia

Carrolton, Georgia

Have your kids put their LEGOS to good use by enrolling them in Robotics LEGO Camp at the University of West Georgia (UWG). Students learn the mechanics of robots from an expert and get the chance to build their own using the beloved blocks. UWG will also have additional camps that cover interests in film, literacy, and science.

Adventure Camp at the Children’s Museum of Atlanta

Atlanta, Georgia

During Adventure Camp, the Children’s Museum of Atlanta affords 5 to 9-year-olds in-depth exploration of the museum’s Learning Zones. In addition to cooking, yoga, and artistry classes, students play outside at Centennial Olympic Park and in the museum’s very own backyard.  

 

National Cyber Warrior Academy

Dahlonega, Georgia

A free two-week residential academy will be hosted at the University of North Georgia for high school students interested in cyber operations and cybersecurity. Students will receive over 40 hours of hands-on lab instruction and will participate in competitions. 

Summer University

Kennesaw, Georgia

Summer University at Kennesaw State University has something for everyone. Younger kids can bake, explore architecture, or learn about Minecraft design. Older students can master Photoshop, improvisation, or comic book art. There is even a Chet Austin Teen Leadership Academy for high schoolers. Take a look at the entire schedule here.

Camp Invention

Statesboro, Georgia

Camp Invention at Georgia Southern University pushes innovative and creative thinking to the limit and inspires students to invent and transform the things around them. For one week, participants can construct a video game model, design a racing kart, or design prototypes from scratch.
