Need help bringing together lesson plans, great streaming video, teaching strategies, and potential activities for students? All of that content is under one roof! Welcome to Discovery Education, a free service to all Georgia educators brought to you by Georgia Public Broadcasting. For help logging in, click here.

Teachers can filter and search for resources, aggregate their favorite content, as well as pair different materials with their favorite teaching strategies. The best part is that Discovery continues to add content! From STEM to social studies, their site is teeming with ways to engage students with the highest quality experiences and lessons.

Here are some tips to get you started:

  1. Streaming Video: Discovery Streaming Plus offers thousands of standards-aligned resources that can be filtered by grade level and content area. Teachers can build aggregate video and content collections all of which come with transcripts.
  2. Board Builder: Students and teachers can both become content producers with virtual, multimedia project boards that are centered on understanding, demonstrating mastery, or providing evidence of a subject or concept. 3. Instructional Strategies: The series “Spotlight on Strategies” has over one hundred creative, research-based strategies, explained by teachers for teachers. These simple strategies are brief, and include a downloadable transcript. Strategies are categorized by outcome for ease of navigation. Some of our favorites? A-E-I-O-U and Six Word Story (click the Professional Development tab on the DE portal home page).
  4. Virtual Field Trips: Beyond the classroom and into some of the world's most iconic locations. Discovery offers tours of the National Archives, NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center, or a Toyota assembly plant. Experiences are categorized by grade level and content area.
  5. Programs & Contests: With partnerships across the spectrum, Discovery offers lessons and contests from the Navy, Electronic Art’s Madden football game, 3M, and Siemens. Students have opportunities to win cash prizes or even scholarships. Most of their contests are STEM focused, including a recent contest where two of ten finalists were from Georgia!

GPB and Discovery are also partnering to bring you Ignite Your Passion for Education, an evening of concise, targeted presentations and networking at our Atlanta headquarters.
