Put Your Artwork On Display At The High Museum of Art
Primary Content
Encourage children to show off some of their beautiful artwork by placing it on display at the High Museum of Art. Next month, the museum will host a Student Pop-Up Show from Saturday, October 1 through Sunday, October 23, 2016. Artists from preschool to 12th grade are invited to submit their work at the museum, and free museum admission will be provided for the creators and their families on those specific dates. Here are some additional details:
- Bring one work of art to the High Museum of Art's Greene Family Education Center on October 1 between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m.
- Only 2-D artwork that can be pinned to the wall using thumbtacks will be accepted. The size is limited to 3 feet x 3 feet.
- Bring a small label with the student’s name, grade, school, and title of the work of art. They will be able to hang it next to their masterpiece!
- Pick-up will be held on October 23 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
While visiting the museum, take the time to look at its other spectacular exhibits like I See A Story: The Art of Eric Carle. More than 80 of his collages are on display, including some from childhood favorites like Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? and The Very Hungry Caterpillar. As you and your child examine the pieces throughout the museum, use the following guide to facilitate discussions and analyze what is seen.
- Observe - Look at the artwork quietly and carefully. Make sure you are paying attention to intricate details, colors, and designs.
- Describe - Express what is being depicted.
- Question - Why are objects placed in certain areas? Why did the artist use specific colors, and what message do you think he or she is trying to convey with their selections?
- Interpret and Connect - How does the title correlate to the painting? How does this work of art connect to what is currently happening in the world or what occurred in the past?
We hope to see your little one's designs at the High Museum of Art this fall!
