Dr. Hannah Oldham, the STEM Academy Coordinator at Sprayberry High School in Marietta, Georgia, received special honors from the Air & Space Forces Association (AFA.) as she was named STEM Teacher of the Year for the East Georgia AFA Chapter and for the State of Georgia.

The Air & Space Forces Association believes that STEM teachers shape the future of our nation, introducing students to exciting new concepts and offering a glimpse into what is possible. The very best educators transform learning into a boundless adventure and prepare their classes to explore new frontiers of technology for the good of us all. Along with grants and scholarships, the Air & Space Forces Association believes that recognizing those who educate America's youth is an important aspect of what AFA is all about. Every year, AFA proudly honors the commitment and achievements of these extraordinary teachers. The AFA's STEM Teacher of the Year program provides an excellent platform for teacher recognition.

Dr. Oldham has been teaching for 16 years, and in addition to her STEM Academy responsibilities, she teaches mathematics and AP Capstone courses. She has led her students in winning the Plant Mars and Plant the Moon challenge, an international competition partnered with NASA where students research, design, conduct and analyze an experiment to grow plants in Martian regolith. Dr. Oldham brings in NASA and related aerospace industry experts to talk with her students and discuss STEM career opportunities. She has been recognized numerous times locally and nationally for her work promoting STEM education along with her award winning students. Many of her students have gone on to pursue STEM degrees in college.

There will be an award ceremony for Dr. Oldham at Sprayberry High School on Friday, October 11, 2024 during her first period STEM Class. The faculty, staff, students and their families are very proud of Dr. Oldham’s prestigious accomplishment and her continued commitment to STEM education.
