In February 1980, President Jimmy Carter issued a presidential proclamation declaring the first week of March as Women's History Week. Since then, this observance has evolved into Women’s History Month—a dedicated time to recognize and celebrate women’s achievements, contributions, and resilience throughout history. To help educators bring these important stories into the classroom, GPB provides free, standards-aligned lesson plans, videos, activities, and interactive resources—all designed by and for teachers to engage students and deepen their understanding of women's impact on society.
