On A Night Like This!

When I decided to write this blog, one my favorite singers, inspirational cancer survivor Kylie Minogue came to my mind. It was her hit song, On a Night Like This!
It was on a Football Friday Night like this, during which Coach Ron Gartrell's Stephenson Jaguars were almost upset by the East Coweta Indians. Stephenson secured the victory with two second-half touchdowns scored by University of Florida commit Mike Davis. The Jaguars’ defense also kept the Indians’quarterback Garrett Schrepfer from engineering a game-changing drive in the final 25 seconds. Schrepfer was sacked during the 4th and goal on Stephenson’s 4 yard line. Stephenson took over on downs and then ran out the clock to preserve the 24-17 win.
The Jags stay undefeated at 8-and 0 and remain tied for the lead with ML King at the top of Region 2, 5-A division. East Coweta suffered its second straight Region defeat and they are now 6-and-2. Their playoff hopes took a MAJOR hit with the loss. The Indians host MLK this Friday in Sharpsburg while Stephenson hosts Newnan High School in Clarkston.
Joining us this week on the GPB Sports Blog is the aforementioned Mike Davis who, like his older brother James, is relentless when it comes to carrying the football. (James Davis played for Douglass High School and Clemson University, and he now plays for the NFL's Detroit Lions.) It was Mike Davis, back fieldmate TJ Moon, and placekicker Wisdom Nzidee who accounted for the 24 points Stephenson was able to post on the Hallford Stadium scoreboard.
After celebrating the 15th anniversary of his then 4-A State Champion Brookwood Broncos team, Coach Dave Hunter rejoins Trey McDaniel and Moi in the broadcast booth this week.
GPB is travelling to Grayson High School to see the Rams host the Brookwood Broncos this Friday. The Rams Nation is also talkin’ some serious trash already. Three members of the student body has produced a YouTube video entitled, “Brookwood, WHERE U AT?” The video has gone viral.
