The Five Things I Know...Semifinals Edition...
Primary Content
The Final 4…
I tried to write that in a way that none of us writing or reading would get into any trouble with the college folks in Indianapolis…
I hope that worked…
But it really is hard to believe that we’re at this stage of the game…
Last week, for those of you that watched our “Football Fridays in Georgia” game of the week saw a Dacula team hang around and hang around and give Class-5A semifinalist Walton a fit-and-a-half before eventually losing…
But it was great to see Falcons lineman Chris Pendley on the sidelines, even if he was in sweats… Pendley was recently given clearance to start hitting people after clearing 20 rounds of cancer treatments…
I told him in front of Assistant Head Coach John Thompson that there were more people who loved him and prayed for him that he knows.
What thoughts linger through your mind this week as we head to the finals…???
Remember, mailbag thoughts are down at the bottom of the page and in next week’s thoughts… looking forward to hearing them from you…
As always, these thoughts are in no order…
First thing I know… Triple-A is in the blender…
Don’t get me wrong, all eight teams were one-seeds going in, but how many of the one seeds made their way in your bracket…???
Peach beats Carrollton, Gainesville beats Sandy Creek, and Cairo shut out St. Pius in Atlanta…
Friends of GPB, Ben and Frank, show you highlights of the Carrollton-Peach game (although we have no idea how Frank got the highlights back in time from Carrollton to the Gray Highway)
((HT: WMAZ-TV))
Quad-A is one game away, by the way, from having an International City rematch themselves as Warner Robins and Northside are right/there themselves… but Tucker and Lovejoy have something to say about that…
I’m hearing from my folks down in the mid-state that if it does go that way, that it’ll be like LSU-Alabama Round two. The Northside folks are thinking “been there, done that already…”
Second thing I know…
It was a shame that Lincoln County and Savannah Christian locked horns in the quarters…
And it also assures us that four private schools play in the semifinals in Single-A
Here’s Friend of GPB Chris Kane with the highlights…
Third thing I know…
Colquitt is now 10-2 on the road in the playoffs in the last three years (8-2 on the road) and they’re the only team to make the semis in the last three seasons alone.
They knocked off Camden County with a 4th-down completion and two-point conversion with 30 seconds left in regulation to advance to Loganville and a rematch of last year with Grayson.
Here’s GPB alum, “The Big Guy” Frank Sulkowski, with early highlights…
((HT: TheCoastalSource.com))
Fourth thing I know…
Double-A looks more and more like Calhoun and Buford…
But don’t tell Carver that…
The Columbia Blue knocked off Fitzgerald at McClung Memorial
Friend of GPB Dave Platta shows how Dell McGee moves on…
((HT: WTVM-TV Columbus))
Fifth thing I know…
Blatant plug alert time… things are a little different this week since we’re in that time of year at GPB to increase our membership…
The game this week for “Football Fridays” is in Loganville with a rematch of last year’s 5A semi between Grayson and Colquitt, but the game is on our GPB Knowledge Channel around the state. If you watch us off digital tuners it is our “point-3” channel for everything you watch. Some cable outlets in the Atlanta area have GPB Knowledge as Channel 246. Check your local listings and/or call your cable operator to see if you have Knowledge in your systems... especially, if you'd like to see them carry the channel full-time...
Hey, there's an idea...
Example: If you watch in Atlanta, our normal GPB programming is on 8.1. GPB Knowledge is 8.3. In Moultrie, you normally watch us on channel 14, WABW-TV, out of Pelham. GPB Knowledge would then be 14.3.
Coverage starts around 7PM eastern with Gil, Coach Hunter, Trey, Mark, Jackie, Lindsey, and yours truly.
Our web finale looks like the Burke-Gainesville game from City Park. Pre-game starts a little before 7:30 on gpb.org/sports
Play it safe, everybody… See you at the Dome…
