College Signees Lead Parkview In The Pool

Archer, Parkview and Peachtree Ridge competed in a three-team meet at Parkview on Friday and the hosts won the overall meet with 527 points. The Peachtree Ridge girls won their meet with 240 points, besting second-place Parkview, which had 221. Archer tallied 167 points. The Lions won the girls meet on the strength of wins by Carrington Bevier (200 free), Savannah Ruedt (200 IM), Christina Wang (100 back), the 200 free relay team and the 400 free relay team.
The host Panthers won the boys meet with 306 points, while Peachtree Ridge had 225 and Archer finished with 103. Devyn Hughes (50 free, 100 butterfly), Ricky Lehner (100 breast, 500 free), Drew Wescoat (100 free), Adrian DeSilva (200 free), Geoffrey Carter (200 IM), Rory Martin (100 back), Sean Piner (diving), the 200 free relay team and the 400 free relay team all won for Parkview. The Panthers’ swimming team boasts 25 state qualifiers as well as three college signees in Lehner (Georgia Tech), Piner (Louisville) and Julianne Kurke (Northwestern).
Brookwood won a meet with North Gwinnett 336-279 Saturday. The Bronco girls won their meet 209-79 while the North Gwinnett boys won the boys meet 182-127. Host Walton won a meet with Harrison Friday on Senior Night as both the Raiders’ boys and girls teams won their respective meets. Charlotte Holz (50 free, 100 free), Kira deBruyn (100 butterfly, 100 breast), Rebecca Shoemaker (diving), the 200 free relay team and the 400 free relay team took home victories for the Walton girls. For the Walton boys, Davis Beauchamp (50 free, 100 free), Nathan Hufnagel (200 individual medley), Jake Williams (100 backstroke), David Sanchez (diving), the 200 free relay, the 400 free relay team and the 200 medley relay team won their respective events. Despite the loss, Harrison had two swimmers break school records, as Madison Jacobi set the mark in winning the girls 200 IM while Connor Oslin broke the record while taking the 500 free.
Collins Hill won a dual meet with Wesleyan 359.5 to 265.5 on Friday. The Eagles won the boys meet 179.5 to 131.5 and the girls meet 180 to 134. Wesleyan’s Anthony McMurry received All-American consideration for his first-place times in the 100 free and the 200 free.
Miller Grove won a meet with Southwest DeKalb and M.L. King on Jan. 10. The Wolverines scored 77 points while the Panthers had 63 points and the Lions tallied 61. Lithonia won a boys meet with M.L. King and Cedar Grove Thursday. The Lions came in second with 62 points while the Saints had 37. Lithonia earned the win with 94 points.
The Westminster boys dropped a road meet at Baylor (Tenn.) 247-177, while the Wildcats’ girls squad fell to the Raiders 266-187. St. Pius won a meet with Lovett and Marietta on Jan. 10 at Lovett. The Golden Lions scored 360 points, while the Blue Devils had 120 and the hosts finished with 60.
