All I can really say is that it was a long day of football for the #GreatGPB...

We were at Cantrell Stadium on the McEachern campus for an awesome doubleheader with Hillgrove, Lassiter, McEachern, and Walton for the second week in a row...

The first game looked like a blowout early when Lassiter got out to a 37-0 lead and we were thinking that there would be a mercy rule for the third and fourth quarters at some point... Boy, were we wrong... The Hawks came roaring back (including a recovered onside kick), to get to within 37-29 before Lassiter could survive and move on. Both teams will have plenty to learn from this game, but we did see what an electric offense and pressure defense Lassiter has. And we saw how Hillgrove never quit...

Game Two had us going on the air until, almost, 2AM with a back-and-forth game with the Indians and Raiders that ended on a last-minute field goal for a 37-35 win for Walton. Tyren Jones earned his week off with his school-record 332 yard performance. And Ty is a treat to watch... there are some moves that he has where all you can do is laugh at what he does on the field...

But I will be the first to give Indians head coach Kyle Hockman credit... he scheduled the former 5A champ and runner-up for his first two games. He admitted that these two games are "measuring sticks..." And there's a lot to measure for the rest of their season...

Here's what I take from Week Two... other than not having a voice until today after Friday night...

First Thing I Know...

Thoughts and prayers to everyone at Northside after the shooting of DE Austin Roberts over the weekend...

He was shot in the back, in circumstances still unclear, but was treated and released at a local hospital. Right now, Miss State and Miami may be taking a peek at Roberts. But, more importantly, Austin needs to get healthy... not just physically, but mentally and emotionally as well...

Get well soon and come back when you can...

Second Thing I Know... on the field...

Single-A will be a blast...

Last Friday, Wilcox County QB Makail Grace went 19-for-27 for 407 yards and scored on a 4-yard run with 46 seconds remaining for the final margin as the Pats beat Wilkinson County 43-39. Grace also ran for 75 yards on 18 carries. And check out these receiving stats: Johnathan Howard had 11 receptions for 205 yards and Quinn Tisdol had four for 125. Wilcox outgained Wilkinson County 546-365...

Here are Ben and Frank, friends of GPB, with the highlights...

Also, Lincoln County beat cross-lake rival McCormick and ELCA beat Briarwood Christian of Alabama to solidify Georgia school's toughness in scheduling early on...

Third Thing I Know...

Let's talk about Region 1-6A...

Camden County destroyed Ocala-Vanguard 53-7, which included a 99-yard drive to start the whole thing off...

Lowndes beat Luella 50-23, Valdosta traveled to North Gwinnett for their double-header and took out North Augusta of South Carolina 28-7, and Colquitt survived their game against Thomas County Central... a game that Packers head coach Rush Propst had worried about on his calendar...

Rightfully so, 35-33... and Colquitt used two QB's- something to pay attention to as we move down the schedule...

Robert Hydrick is in the Locker Room...

Fourth Thing I Know...

We have a new member of the 300 Win club for head coaches...

Marist's Alan Chadwick...

The War Eagles beat Clarke Central 30-13 in Athens. QB Myles Willis rushed for 159 yards and two touchdowns on 29 carries, and he also threw a 27-yard TD pass to Gray King for the majority of their offense... Next Friday Thomas County Central travels all the way to Hughes-Spalding Stadium to try and bounce back from that Colquitt loss... tough order for Coach Shaver on a long road trip...

Okay, name the other members of the 300 Win Club... answer below...
