North Cobb put on quite a show on Football Fridays in Georgia, taking over the game in the fourth quarter with two quick scores

First and foremost…

WHAT A FRIDAY NIGHT LAST WEEK on “Football Fridays in Georgia…”

(And, yes, the capital letters were intentional…)

A great environment… and a great game where one of the toughest environments around came to play… North Cobb took the game over in the fourth quarter with two quick scores and had to hold on…

And, I mean, “HOLD ON!”

Here’s the game as it aired on GPB… and it was awesome…

Officially, that knocked McEachern down a few places in the GPB Poll, but the Indians and Kyle Hockman have the rest of the regular season (and the regular season finale against Hillgrove) to sort out what’s left in Region 4-6A before we get to the end of Game 10. They’ll be back…

The only thing missing was the North Cobb public address announcer losing his voice and asking… no, imploring… his defense to “hunker it down, you guys, just one more time…”

Kinda like this…

Okay… deep breath…

Last week, there were more statements by teams in the top ten than real upsets. But some teams had some scares: Sandy Creek was scared by Alexander, Clarke Central was close early before Gainesville blew past the Gladiators, Creekside held off Whitewater, Elbert County knocked North Oconee out of the top ten with their 28-23 win, Vidalia squeaked by Bryan County, Landmark only beat Pace by 3, and Clinch beat Wilcox in the toughest region in single-A…

Two games really held my interest out east: The Vidalia game and the Wayne County-South Effingham game- both very close and both with post-season positioning in play…

In the middle of it all, in the International City, Warner Robins had to take on the (somewhat) new rival Houston County- and the silver and black took the Demons from the land of the undefeated…

Elsewhere, Mary Persons keeps on rolling with their win over Rutland and Northside goes to 7-0 with their win over Jones County. And, how about Veterans…??? Knocking off Perry and they’re on the verge of one of their best seasons ever…

Congrats to the pride of Kathleen and the Warhawks…

Down south, Region 1-6A is looking like there is some separation… and Lee County and Thomas County Central was a battle of n umber 6 and number 8 in 5A. It’s just that both are in region 1-5A…

In 6A, Valdosta took on Tift and Lowndes sent Coffee to another loss in, what started out as, a promising season under head coach Robby Pruitt. Colquitt still looks like the class of it all in that grouping as they took on Brunswick…

Speaking of Valdosta and Lowndes, this week’s guests on the “Football Fridays in Georgia” podcast are the two guys who called the game for their respective fan bases- Monty Long and Wes James. Or Wes James and Monty Long depending on your fandom…

Feel free to click on the fancy machine at the bottom of all these words to hear it first-hand, or you can subscribe to the podcast on the GPB iTunes page…
