Head Coach Shannon Jarvis is going into his 13th season as head coach of the Mill Creek Hawks. He is the only head coach in the program’s history.

He’s come a long way from a rough start in 2004 with 3 straight losing seasons. Jarvis has now molded the football program into an elite, championship contender.

Last year was his most successful, reaching the semi-finals for the first time in school history. Their defense had a lot to do with that success. They shut out 6 of their opponents, 5 of them were region competitors.

Despite having an extremely impressive defense, it wasn’t enough to stop one of the most prolific offenses in the state. And their dreams of being state champions ended in the semi-final around against the Colquitt County Packers.

But the glory of last season, for every football team, has diminished by now.

It’s time for 2016.

Schools have begun their spring practices and scrimmages. A few weeks ago, the Hawks were well into spring practice and we stopped by to check it all out.

There’s still a little bit of a chip on their shoulder from last season that contributes to their motivation this year.

But at this point, this time of year is really all about working on the fundamentals, Coach Jarvis told me.

As they get ready for the upcoming season, it will start right where it ended- against the defending champions, the Colquitt County Packers, at the Georgia Dome on August 20.

It should make for a really interesting matchup, especially since Rush Propst has also told us about how this season could be his most challenging because of the loss of so many seniors and their tough schedule.

And for the Hawks, they have a few big name recruits to keep an eye on, one of them being safety Jamar Hall (more to come on him next week).

Here’s what Coach Jarvis had to say about moving on from last season, what he’s focused on now, and what to expect in 2016.
