It’s the final two minutes in the fourth quarter. We’ve reached the end of our “Year of the Quarterbacks” series where we’ve gone one-on-one with many of the top recruits in the state. But be sure to look for a full re-cap and analysis next week.

According to 247Sports, senior Davis Mills from Greater Atlanta Christian is a four-star recruit and the second best quarterback in the state of Georgia, but what’s even more impressive is that he’s the fifth best quarterback in the country among those of the 2017 graduating class.

Last season, he led GAC to the semi-finals where they lost to Pace Academy 45-20. The Knights would win the Class AA championship title the following week.

Mills has committed to play football at Stanford University in the Pac-12 conference, choosing the Cardinal (yes, their mascot is known as the Cardinal, the "Stanford Tree") over schools like Alabama, Michigan and Georgia (just to name a few). Stanford went 12-2 last season, including a 45-16 victory over #5 ranked Iowa in the Rose Bowl.

Here’s a scouting report of the kind of player the Cardinal is getting in Davis Mills, from the mouth of his current head coach Tim Hardy at Greater Atlanta Christian:
“He’s very consistent and can make a wide variety of throws, but it’s really his mental make up that puts him in position to make those things happen,” Hardy says.

What you see is what you get with Mills. As Coach Hardy puts it, “he’s a quarterback’s quarterback.” He is calm in high-pressure situations, poised when facing daunting defenses and doesn’t ride the roller coasters of a game. He stays even-keeled and doesn’t lose his cool in big moments.
Of course all of those skills stem from the fundamentals of his game in addition to his incredible work ethic. Not to mention the fact that he’s also been blessed with unbelievable athleticism.

The most important thing about his game, to me, is his versatility and the ability to remain consistent. He’s technically a pro-style quarterback and a traditional pocket-passer with over 2,800 yards last season. BUT… (There’s always a but) last season he finished with almost 600 rushing yards.

My point is: he finds a way to make the play happen even if it is deemed over by the naked eye. This is where his poise comes into play. He’s never rattled. He can scramble among the best of them and do what it takes to get the job done. He threw 25 touchdown passes, rushed for 14 more with only seven interceptions. If you’re trying to do the math just know this- that’s incredible, people.

His coach described him best when saying, “he’s a selfless player, he cares a lot about his teammates and he just doesn’t play with a lot of ego.”
For all of those reasons and more, he embodies as close to a perfect quarterback as you can get. Georgia is lucky to have so many in our wheelhouse. He's one of those players where you just find yourself watching him and you forget that he's only in high school. Look for him in the future on Saturdays.

Next week, look for a full re-cap of the quarterbacks we discussed, but also the ones we didn’t.
