It’s that time of year…

Where, when you look at #4-seeds playing #1-seeds, there are times when the 4 isn’t a 4 and they come up and bite a top seed and send them home.

It happened a couple of times in the opening round of the playoffs this year- Coffee knocking off Heritage comes to mind immediately as I write- so, that leads me, Faithful Reader, to my opening round question: What was the biggest surprise of the opening round of the playoffs to you…???

Could be a 4 knocking off a 1, could be a 3 knocking off a 2, could be margin of victory for one school over another…

So, let me know what you think in any number of ways…

Now, back to the week that was… and some teams put up some big numbers…

Like Lowndes… in a game that they lead 56-33 in the third that became 56-54 in the blink of an eye and ended up 92-61- and THAT’S NOT A MISPRINT! Outscoring the Hawks 36-7 in the late third and 4th quarter gave us one for the record books…

From our friends at the GHSFDaily and the GHSFHA, here’s your new Top Five for points in a game:

153 - Lowndes d. Hillgrove 92-61 (2016)
144 - Douglas A&M d. Ocilla 144-0 (1922)
140 - Washington Street d. Washington (Blakely) 126-14 (1969)*
138 - Collins Hill d. South Cobb 70-68 (2004)
135 - Monroe Academy d. David Emanuel Academy 83-52 (2008)**

Nothing like knocking off a 94-year old record… and the funny part is that the Douglas A&M season was a wild one- going back to 1922…

In five of their six registered losses, the Demons were shut out- so, really, it was one of two extremes for their schedule in a year that they finished 3-6….

Another one of those 1-4 match-ups gave us a defending champ in Pace Academy travelling to GAC to take on the Spartans. K-Rod and our friends at High5Sports are in the game…

And another one-seed on a roll is Dalton… The catamounts took on Winder-Barrow in the northwest Georgia mountains… Dave Staley has the highlights from our friends at Newschannel9 and the Sideline Wrap-Up…
