Top Stories and Quarterbacks for 2017: Week 1
Primary Content
During the offseason, the Georgia High School Association (GHSA) considered implementing new regulations aimed at discouraging student athletes from transferring to other schools – but that idea was tabled until next year. In the meantime, some big names from in-state and out-of-state made moves this summer to try to up their stock to get that one offer from their dream school.
Some Georgia recruits already have their college offers and are ready to make their senior season one to remember. Cartersville QB Trevor Lawrence looks to win his third straight State Championship, but this year the Hurricanes won’t have to rely entirely on his arm. RB Rico Frye of Creekside is now at Cartersville. The all-purpose back ran for more than 4,000 yards at his old school. He looks to give Lawrence a deadly run game to compliment his air attack.
Tyler and Dylan Fromm, the twin brothers of UGA freshmen QB Jake Fromm, have transferred from Houston County and are now enrolled at Warner Robins. Tyler had 35 catches for 543 yards in 10 games last season as a sophomore while Dylan was the backup QB. This year, however, Dylan is getting the starting nod at Warner Robins and looks to have a break out season with his brother.
Roswell High was able to reload again getting two transfers from out of state in North Carolina- dual-threat QB Cordell Littlejohn and LB/RB Jamal Littlejohn. Cordell passed for 3,655 yards and 50 touchdowns last season. Jamal often played on both sides of the ball. They are cousins to Roswell TE Tyneil Hopper.
Some key early games to watch:
The West Georgia Classic to be played at the University of West Georgia in Carrollton pits Newnan against Carrollton High.
Hillgrove takes on powerhouse Buford. Longtime rivals Northside- Warner Robins and Warner Robins face off in the International City. In South Georgia, Valdosta plays Lowndes in the Winnersville Classic. In the Corky Kell Classic, McEachern battles Mill Creek, Tucker takes on Kell, and Norcross goes head-to-head against Colquitt County.
