Gabriel Benyard ran for two touchdowns and caught a touchdown pass to help Irwin County to a 27-19 win over Brooks County in the Class A Private championship game and give the Indians their second straight state championship.

Benyard carried 14 times for 90 yards and scored on runs of 35 and 2 yards. He caught a 53-yard touchdown pass from Cody Soliday.

The Irwin County defense provided the definitive moment. Derrick Taylor intercepted a pass and returned it 34 yards for a touchdown. He had a 100-yard pick-six in the semifinal win over Metter. Taylor led the team with five solo tackles.

Irwin County (12-3) also got six receptions for 89 yards from Garland Benyard. The Benyard brothers have signed with Kennesaw State.

Brooks County (13-2) was led by running back Omari Arnold, who carried 21 times for 113 yards and one touchdown. Quarterback Nitavion Burrus completed 12 of 22 passes for 125 yards and two touchdowns, both to Willie Brown, a 35-yarder and a 13-yarder. Brown caught seven passes for 68 yards.

Ethan Bell had seven solo tackles, six assists and two tackles for loss to lead Brooks. Cameron Priest had three tackles for loss.
