None of the top-ranked teams were displaced this week, but the situation in Class 2A continues to get intriguing.

Three different teams received first-place votes in 2A – Fitzgerald, Rabun County and Callaway – with Fitzgerald hanging on to the top spot.

"Top to bottom, I think Class 2A will be one of the toughest to call all season long,” GPB’s Jon Nelson said. “Northeast, as an example, lost a shocker to Dougherty, but I still think they're one of the top teams in 2A.”

Several teams jumped into the poll this week: Marietta to No. 8 and West Forsyth to No. 9 in Class 7A; Johns Creek to No. 10 in Class 6A; Dougherty to No. 9 and LaGrange to No. 10 in Class 4A; Rockmart to No. 10 in Class 3A; Washington County to No. 10 in Class 2A; Clinch County to No. 9 and Washington-Wilkes to No. 10 in Class A Public; and Darlington to No. 9 and Aquinas to No. 10 in Class A Private.

“For me rankings are not a science,” GPB’s Matt Stewart said. “Rankings are always relative to not only what a team did -- win or lose -- in a particular week but also taken in context to how the teams around them in the rankings fared. But if I have one truism, it would be that I don't look favorably on blowouts. I see in other rankings that teams that got beat by 40-plus are still ranked. I have a hard time doing that.”
